Our Learning Environment

Bingham Academy’s pursuit of academic excellence is reflected in its learning environment. Nestled on a spacious, green campus in the outer suburbs of Addis Ababa, our facilities are thoughtfully designed to support focused learning, creative play, extracurricular involvement, and the safety of our students.

The campus layout also fosters regular opportunities for outdoor interaction as elementary and secondary students, teachers, and staff move freely throughout the grounds.

Academic Building

Our Elementary Building, completed in 2021, serves as the home for Grades 1–5, our Amharic language classrooms, and our elementary art classroom.

Our secondary classrooms are located in the Gowans Center, a vibrant learning space that also features science and computer labs, as well as outdoor areas for tutoring and study groups. The building provides ample room for older students to learn and collaborate, while also housing our secondary teacher workrooms. In addition, the Gowans Center is home to the offices of the Athletic Director and Secondary School Counselor.

Most of Bingham’s administrative staff are based in the Admin Building, including the Chair of the Directorial Team, Director of Operations, Operations Manager, Human Resources, Finance Manager and Procurement Office, Marketing & Communications Manager, and the Health Coordinator. The Elementary and Secondary Principal teams, staff supporting behavior and restorative practice, and the Admission Officer are located in the Hub, conveniently situated next to the secondary school.

Our campus also has several classrooms reserved for study of Amharic – Ethiopia’s national language.

The Graham Hay Memorial Library is open to students and staff from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including during recess and lunch. Students are encouraged to take full advantage of the library’s resources throughout the school day. During the rainy season break, the library operates on adjusted hours to ensure continued access while accommodating seasonal campus needs.

Athletics Facility & Fields

Our campus is designed to promote fitness, teamwork, and active learning for students and staff alike. Facilities include an indoor gymnasium with a rock climbing wall, an outdoor basketball court, Ricker Field, a KG1 and KG2 playground, an elementary playground, an upper elementary mini ropes course, and a cross-country track. We also offer a workout room for staff, which is available to secondary students who have received approval and completed the required training. These spaces provide opportunities for physical activity, collaboration, and outdoor learning throughout the school year.
