Our Learning Environment
Bingham Academy’s commitment to academic excellence begins with the learning environment. Our school is located on a spacious green campus in the outer suburbs of Addis Ababa. Our campus buildings are arranged to maximize focused learning, creative play, extra-curricular activities and the safety of our children.
The campus setting allows for regular opportunities for outdoor interaction as elementary and secondary students, teachers and staff move about campus.
CAMPUS VISITORS
Our desire is to limit potential virus exposure. Therefore, we will begin the school year by allowing only students, staff, and approved visitors (i.e. vendors, deliveries, etc.) on campus.
Campus will be closed to parents, drivers, family members, or other non-approved guests. If parents need to meet with school staff, this should be done either by email, phone, or video conference.
All approved visitors upon arrival will be subject to:
Health screening,
Required hand washing,
Mask check.
Outside of designated on-campus learning hours, the campus, for now, will remain closed to visitors. Our hope is for these restrictions to change when risk is reduced.
Academic Building
We are pleased to have completed the constructions of our NEW temporary Elementary building for the start of our 2021 - 2022 academic year. This building is home to our Grade 1 -5 classrooms, Amharic language classrooms, learning support and our Elementary Principal’s office.
Our secondary classrooms are housed in the Gowans Center which includes science and computer labs as well as outside spaces for tutoring and study groups. This year due to COVID regulations several of our secondary classrooms have been relocated to our previous elementary classrooms. These rooms have more space for our older students to learn and collaborate safely. The Athletic Director and Secondary school counselor also have offices located in the Gowans Center
Most of Bingham’s administrative staff have offices in the Admin Building, including the Director, Human Resources, Project Manager, Accounting/Finance, School Registrar, Marketing Coordinator and School Nurse. Our Secondary Principal, Deputy Principal, and Dean of Students can be found in the Hub, located adjacent to the the secondary school.
Our campus also has several classrooms reserved for study of Amharic – Ethiopia’s national language.
The Graham Hay Memorial Library is available for students and staff from 7:45am until 3:00pm. The library remains open during recess and lunch time. Students are encouraged to use the library during school hours.
Athletics Facility & Fields
Our campus has one indoor gymnasium with a rock climbing wall, an outdoor basketball court, Ricker Field, a KG1 and KG2 playground, an elementary playground, an upper elementary mini ropes course, and a cross country track.
